May 28, 2015
After receiving the eighth seed for the Section 6AAA tournament, the Royals had a first round matchup with the ninth-seeded Mound Westonka White Hawks. The White Hawks finished the regular season with a 7-6 record.
Since the Royals were the higher seed of the two teams, the game was played at the Hopkins Stadium. The Royals came out of the gate with a bang as Sammi Galinson, sophomore, scored a goal off the opening draw.
After a competitive first half, the Royals went into halftime with a 4-3 lead.
The second half of the game was dominated by the Royals. The Royals controlled the ball on the White Hawks’ half of the field for the majority of the half and were constantly taking shots on goal.
The Royals went on to beat Mound Westonka by a 10-5 final. Miranda Oestreich, senior, scored two goals for the Royals along with four from Galinson.
Up next for the Royals is a quarterfinal matchup against top-seeded Eden Prairie Eagles. The Royals fell to the Eagles twice in the regular season by scores of 20-7 and 16-3.
