As fans entered the stands for the final home match of the season, they were met by free candy, soda, and tennis. The boys tennis team faced off against Minnetonka, the top team in the Lake Conference.

The cheerful atmosphere quickly dissipated into a night to forget for the team, who lost all seven matches against the Skippers.

Chase Johnson, senior captain, is the Royals’ top singles player. Johnson faced the Skipper’s number one singles player, Jonah Salita, and lost in a third set tiebreaker.

“It was a tough match. Tonka is one of the best in the state. We knew it would be a tough win, but we fought hard and competed well,” said Johnson.

Although the team has lost five consecutive matches, Johnson is still confident that the Royals can make a run in the playoffs.

“As a team, I’m hoping we’re resilient and able to bounce back from this loss,” said Johnson. “I’m hopeful we’re able to grind out some matches against Wayzata and bounce back after the tough loss to Minnetonka.”

Up next is the final match of the regular season at Wayzata, who is ranked number two in the state. After that, the section tournament will begin.
