On Friday, April 24, the Royals were set to take on the Red Knights of Benilde-St. Margarets. The weather was cold and windy, but that didn’t stop the Royals from catching fire. With the Royals trailing 2-0 midway through the second inning, it was the Royals’ turn to get on the scoreboard.

Tommy Gleason, senior, drove in Coby Hair, senior, with a double to get the Royals on the board. Six runs later, the Royals were still batting in the bottom of the second. With two men on, Robbie Palkert, senior, crushed a hanging breaking ball over the left-field fence to cap off the 10-run inning for the home team.

After a 19-minute bottom of the second inning, the Royals had a commanding 10-2 lead. The Knights followed up by scoring a run of their own in the top of the third.

After a scoreless bottom of the third and top of the fourth, the rain began to fall on the HHS varsity baseball field. After 4 ⅓ innings, the game was called due to rain with the Royals leading 10-3.

Six days later, the game restarted. The Royals and Knights both found comfort in a 70 degree and sunny day as they continued play at the HHS fields. The Royals added another run in the bottom of the fifth that extended the lead to 11-3. Jon Koch, junior, who pitched in the April 24 game, finished off the Knights soundly by allowing zero runs in the final three innings of the game.

The Royals won the game 11-3. With the win, the Royals improve their record to 5-6. Up next for the Royals is a date with the Eden Prairie Eagles on Friday, May 1.
