Without their top singles player, Chase Johnson, senior, the HHS boys tennis team headed into their match on Monday, April 27 against the Armstrong Falcons with a new-look lineup.

Without their captain, coaches Ali King and Ken Novak Jr., Social Studies, had to put some players in unfamiliar spots.

Ben Mattson, junior, found himself taking over for the missing Johnson and playing in the number-one singles match for the first time this season.

β€œIt was a fun experience even though I lost,” Mattson said.

With Johnson a senior, Mattson knows the one singles spot will be open next year.

β€œI can see myself playing top singles [next year] as long as I keep getting better,” Mattson said.

Wins from the doubles teams of Curran Martin, senior and Ari Segal, seventh grader at NJH and Daniel Grayson, senior and Jovito Chase, junior were the highlights of the match for the Royals. The Royals struggled otherwise, losing the rest of their matches.
