Police officers reward students for wearing seatbelts
On Wednesday after school, several students were stopped by police officers in the parking lot.
Instead of writing a ticket, Minnetonka Police Officers rewarded students for wearing their seatbelts by handing out buckle up bracelets, a free Little Caesars, Kwik Trip or DQ coupon and a free Mystery Ride ticket to Nickelodeon.
“I thought that the police were giving citations for people being on there phones, but turns out they were rewarding people for doing something right,” said Francisco Gonzalez, senior.
This event is part of a program called “I Got Caught” run by the Minnesota Sheriffs Association and the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association.
“By rewarding students, we are reinforcing the behavior of wearing a seat belt,” said Officer Jason Tait, school liaison.
