On Wednesday, April 22, the 4-5 Royals tennis team faced off against the Eagan Wildcats. The Royals came into the match hot following two consecutive wins over St. Louis Park and White Bear Lake. In the previous two matches, the Royals have won by a combined score of 11-3.

“Coach told us to apply what we worked on in practice to the match, and I think we did that.” Curran Martin, senior.

Before their match with the Royals, the Wildcats (3-4) have struggled losing their previous three matches including getting shut out by Blake 0-7.

Despite losses from the number one doubles pair Sam Diedrich, sophomore and Logan Remington, junior, and the number two singles player Ben Mattson, junior, the Royals got wins from one singles Chase Johnson, senior, three singles Simon Peterson, junior and four singles Daniel Grayson, senior.

“Everyone was energetic and fought hard.” said Johnson. “I think everyone played well. Every match we played them (Eagan) competitively and I think the 5-2 win reflected that.”

The two doubles team Martin and Ari Segal, 7th grade, and three doubles Evan Hazeltine, Josh Boderman, seniors, won their matches making it a 5-2 match win for the Royals.

“If we keep playing with this energy, the future looks bright.” said Martin.

This win is the first home win for the Royals this season.

“[It] feels great and it was a good team win. I’m looking forward to more of those [wins] as the season progresses,” said Grayson.
