After cruising past Owatonna 14-1 in the season opener last Saturday, the Royals lacrosse team came into their date with Chaska on Tuesday, April 14 confident and hungry for more.

Chaska jumped out on the Royals by taking an early 1-0 lead.

“They got the first goal of the game early in the first quarter. I think that is when our guys realized this wasn’t going to be an easy win,” said Kamal Baker, junior.

With their back against the wall, the Royals caught fire on both the offensive and defensive ends of the field, holding Chaska to only three more even-strength goals, six in total throughout the game.

The Royals’ seniors really stepped up in this game, with goals by Ely Harel, senior captain, and Elliot Cochran, senior captain. Michael Cera, senior, had two goals and Andrew Wallace-Jackson, senior, had three goals.

The juniors came to play as well, lead by Kamal Baker and Nick Culp. Baker had a strong performance, tallying four goals and two assists, while Culp lit up the stat sheet with three goals and four assists.

The Royals cruised to victory 14-6.

With the win, the Royals (2-0) already have as many wins as they had all of last season.

“We have our heads held high and we have hopes of another win against Eden Prairie,” said Jacob Jochim, sophomore.
