On Tuesday, April 13, the girls varsity lacrosse team hosted Chaska in the team’s season opener. The Royals finished last year with a regular season record of 3-10 and a Lake Conference record of 1-7.

Molly Dionne, senior, saved 17 out of 26 shots on goal.  Many new players also showcased their skills in their first varsity appearance.

The game started out with the Royals behind 1-3, but drew close as the game went on. The Royals crept closer and closer, and by halftime, the Royals were ahead 5-3.

During the second half, the Royals kept scoring, but Chaska was close behind. Eventually, the Hawks tied the game.

Chaska then pulled ahead 7-9 but the possibility of a draw was still close.

With four seconds remaining, the Royals were one point behind, when a timeout was called and a new strategy to push down the field was set.

Despite their efforts, the Royals could not get down the field in time, resulting in a 8-9 defeat.
