Ben Whalen, sophomore, is a pitcher/outfielder for the varsity baseball team. Whalen is a first year varsity player who is looking forward to making an impact for a Royals team that finished with a 7-10 record.

“I like playing the outfield position because I have always played it and I like to throw people out at home,” Whalen said.

Whalen’s goals for the season include having an ERA of under 2.00 and maintaining a .300 batting average.

Whalen’s pitches include a four-seam fastball, two-seam fastball, curveball and a changeup.

“I like pitcher because it really gives me the opportunity to control the game.” said Whalen.

During the offseason, Whalen plays for a club team called the Minnesota Millers. Whalen plays on the team during the fall and winter seasons.

“This winter we won a tournament in Arizona.” said Whalen “I went 14-16 and we won rings. It’s one of my best memories of playing baseball.”
