The girls basketball team beat the eighth-seeded St. Louis Park Orioles 92-44 in the opening round of the Section 6AAAA playoffs. With the win, the Royals advance to the section semifinal game against Edina.

The girls came out of the gate hot and stayed that way throughout the first half and went into the locker room with a 60-30 lead. Brian Cosgriff sat his starters for the majority of the second half as the Royals coasted to a 92-44 win.

“We wanted to come out and make a statement to the other teams,” said Bianca Williams, senior guard. “I hope they got the message.”

The team will play the Hornets on Saturday March 7th. Like the Royals, the Hornets are coming off a strong victory to Armstrong. However, the last time the teams played each other, the Royals beat the Hornets 67-30.

The Royals will have to contain Jill Morton, senior guard. Morton averages 15 points and 3 assists per game for the Hornets.

Annika Jank, sophomore forward, and Hollie will be a key matchup. Both are tall forwards who average at least 15 points per game. Hollie looks forward to the matchup.

“She’s a great player, Hollie said. “I’m eager to take on the challenge of guarding her.”

The game will be played at Roosevelt High School at 12:00pm.
