Both the Royals and Eden Prairie Eagles have played 25 games so far this season, and the final regular-season game will be the biggest for each team.

With a win, the Royals will clinch their 21st Lake Conference title in the last 25 seasons. With a loss, the Royals and Eagles will share the title for the first time since the 2010-2011 season.

Both teams are coming off surprising losses Tuesday night. The Royals lost to Minnetonka on senior night and the Eagles lost to Edina at the buzzer. The Royals defeated the Eagles on January 16 by the score of 75-67 at the Lindbergh Center.

Tonight’s matchup will be at Eden Prairie High School in front of a hostile environment. It will be a tough game for the Royals, but it is certainly winnable.

Here are the three keys to the game according to Mr. Ken Novak Jr., head coach and Social Studies.

  1. “We have to make sure we stop their shots. They are a very good shooting team and we can’t let them blow by us when we try to stop them.”

  1. “Rebounding. I think that is a weakness in our team. We aren’t naturally big and naturally strong and [Eden Prairie] is that way. If they hammer us on the boards, we’ll be in trouble.”

  1. “Offensively, it will help if we can start extending our possessions a little longer and passing the ball a little quicker, get a little bit more movement. In basketball, there are two things: player movement and ball movement. You have to make sure you’re getting those two things. I think we’ve been doing it throughout the season, but in our last game [against Minnetonka], the ball stuck a little bit. If we do these three things, then we’ll have a chance to win it.”
