Hoops for Hope

Brian Yu, Business Editor

On Friday, Feb. 13 at 7:00 in the Lindbergh Center, the National Honors Society will be sponsoring its fourth annual Hoops For Hope fundraiser at the Boys Varsity Basketball Game vs. Edina. The spirit for the game will be a “purple out” because the color represents cancer awareness. The Coaches vs. Cancer game is played to show support for those at HHS who have faced cancer and raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Before and during the game, there will be several interactive opportunities for spectators to donate.

Raffle

NHS members will be selling raffle tickets prior to the game at the main entrances. Winners will be drawn during time outs in the second half. Prizes include gift cards to local restaurants and spirit shop apparel.

Wall of Hope

NHS members will be selling small cards that spectators can write the names of people who have suffered from cancer. It is an opportunity for the community to recognize these people.

Miracle Minute

At half time, NHS members will be running up and down the bleachers with buckets to collect loose change and cash for 76 seconds. The 76 seconds are meant to be a reminder that every day in Minnesota, 76 people are diagnosed with cancer.

X Marks The Spot Game

As spectators walk into the game, NHS members will be selling numbered balls. At halftime, the X Marks The Spot Game will be played. NHS members will create an X on the court and at this time, anyone who purchased a ball can throw it onto the court from the bleachers. Whomever’s ball is the closest to the center of the X will win a gift card.
