The boys wrestling season ended on Tuesday Feb. 10, after falling to the Minneapolis South Tigers 55-19 in the first round of sections.

“The team wrestled at our greatest level given the circumstances. We had two varsity starters who were out due to injury and two more who were not able to make it to the meet.  The team needed to fill those spots with some JV guys that had not seen much varsity competition this year,” said Justin Grunseth, sophomore.

Grunseth was one of the few wrestlers who won his round, coming back in the last 10 seconds to secure the win.

“I knew I needed two points to tie the match. I reversed him which gave me the tying points, and then I put him in a headlock and that gave me the three points that I needed to win,” Grunseth said.

The match also displayed the bright future of the wrestling team. Nate Johnson, sophomore, and Willie Rohweder, junior, both won their matches in convincing fashion. Those wins will give the wrestlers some confidence going into the individual section tournament.

The individual section tournament will be held on Feb. Friday, 20th, and Feb. Saturday, 21st at Wayzata High School.
