On Saturday, Feb. 7, the boys hockey team fell at home to the Edina Hornets (20-1-2) by a score of 6-2.

Throughout their season, Edina has averaged over five goals per game and has allowed just over one goal per game. The Hornets came into the game as the second-ranked team in the state, only behind Lakeville North.

At the end of the first period, the Royals found themselves in a 3-0 hole, with goals from Edina’s Sam Fuss and Matt Masterman, seniors, and Casey Dornbach, junior.

The Royals fought back in the second period. The first two goals of the period were scored by the Hornets, but the next two came from the Royals courtesy of Josh Laven and Austin Fisher, seniors. Despite their efforts, the Royals still found themselves behind by a score of 5-2.

The Royals did not muster a comeback in the third period. The lone goal of the third came from the Hornets’ Henry Bowlby, senior, making the final score 6-2 in favor of Edina.

The Royals travel to Eden Prairie on Thursday, Jan. 12 to take on the Eagles for their second-to-last regular-season game. The Eagles, ranked second in the Lake Conference, beat the Royals before by one goal on Jan. 24.
