Willie Rohweder, junior, is a team leader for the Royals wrestling team.

“My favorite memory of my wrestling career was last year in Chanhassen,” Rohweder said. “The whole team wrestled great, and I placed second.”

During the offseason, Rohweder spends his time running to keep his conditioning up and wrestles freestyle to keep his form.  Freestyle wrestling is the type of wrestling associated with the Olympic games.

“For me, wrestling never stops.  Even when wrestling isn’t in season, I’m still wrestling, whether it is in the summer with Coach Marcus and some teammates or with some buds,” Rohweder said.

Although he has won a number of JV tournaments, Rohweder has never won a varsity tournament.

“My goal for the rest of my high school wrestling career is to finally win a varsity tournament.  Another goal of mine is to make it to state and be the first Royal wrestler to win since 1975.”
