Trending: Women’s style at HHS
Jan 24, 2015
There are three very common outfits for girls at HHS. We all see them, and we all know they’re there. I’m here to recognize and improve them. Though I am no fashionista myself, nor do I look cute every day of every week, I’ve been to the mall. I read the fashion magazines. I know how to spice up an outfit. While I never wear the same thing everyday, I don’t spend the entire morning picking out my outfit. I find myself in a pretty good mix of the three. Just like politics, we have our extremist and our moderates. I’m the independent party here to review the political parties. Here are the most stereotypical outfits of HHS.
1)Society’s modern day camouflage:
What the wearer is thinking: “I didn’t know what I wanted to wear, so I dressed like everyone else.”
On any given day this outfit can be spotted on 80 percent of females standing in the mall with their friends. It’s easy, but it still maintains some class. However, do we really need to all look the same everyday?
Possible Improvements: Please, ladies, comfort and style without leggings is still achievable. Jeans of all types stretch and pull just like leggings but don’t give you the awkward feeling you had as an 8th grader wearing jeggings. Put on a pair of jeans with more spandex than denim every once in a while; they’re cute and still fit after lunch.
2)Somewhat socially acceptable snuggie:
What the wearer is thinking: “Today’s not my day and first block is always nap time. It’s cold and I want to be comfy.”
We all have our lazy days, and sometimes we need to put comfort over style. But wearing a pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt isn’t always the way to go. Sweats hang and completely lose your shape.
Possible Improvements: It’s easy to make your lazy day with no effort look cute and still effortless. Keep the sweatpants, lose the sweatshirt. Instead, put on a tighter fitting long sleeve shirt or your favorite T-shirt from when the basketball team went to the state championship. You’ll have school spirit and still be comfortable-everyone’s happy!
3) Dressing and potentially impressing:
What the wearer is thinking: *Checks weather app* “It looks like it will be heating up to 5 degrees today, so I think I’ll wear something light.”
Jeans and a sweatshirt with your favorite boots. The classic of the casual outfits. With the invention of Levi’s during the gold rush, you know these pants are good for any time of the year and almost any occasion. For school, you dress them down with your favorite crewneck that’s not too heavy in the blazing science rooms and isn’t too light for breaking out of the building at lunch. No one has time to grab their jacket when they’re running for their midday Chipotle.
Possible Improvements: We know what Uggs are. We live in Minnesota, and a lot of people have them. Try to change it up and wear a pair of combat or Sorrell type boots. Wear some adventurous ones or a pair of Timberlands. Maybe ask your friend who wears “modern day camo” to borrow her Hunter rain boots. Also, make sure you don’t wear medium wash jeans every time. They start to look boring. Switch it up with a pair of dark wash or even light wash jeans with a darker colored sweater.
