The boys hockey team was defeated by the Minnetonka Skippers 6-3 on Thurs. Jan. 15 at the Hopkins Pavilion in a Lake Conference matchup.

The Skippers came out strong with a goal, but Riley Martin, junior and the Royals quickly answered. The game went back and forth multiple times. After one period, the Royals were locked at two after a goal from Josh Laven, senior.

Through out the rest of the game penalties killed the Royals. The Skippers spent 14 minutes in the penalty on 7 infractions compared to the Royals who spent 28 minutes in the penalty on 10 infractions.

A minute and a half into the second period, the Skippers scored but didn’t hold the lead for long as Laven notched his second goal of the game. A very late second period goal would make it 4-3 Tonka, good enough for the winning goal as the Royals were shutout in the third, eventually falling 6-3.

The Royals loss puts them at 0-1 in the conference and 10-5-1 overall. The Royals play next on Saturday, Jan. 17 against Buffalo at the Buffalo Civic Center in Buffalo.
