On Friday, Jan. 16, the girls basketball team will face the Eden Prairie Eagles.

This matchup will be the first time these two teams will have met since the Eagles knocked off the Royals in last year’s Section 6AAAA Tournament.

Hopkins came into the 2014 section tournament as the number one seed. They had aspirations of winning their fourth consecutive state title.

The dream of a fourth consecutive title for the Royals was crushed by the Eagles when they suffered a 51-46 defeat in the section semifinal game.

The Royals come into this game ranked number one in the state. The Royals’ lone loss was an early-season defeat by third-ranked Eastview. The Eagles have a 9-4 record and are coming off a 29-point win over Holy Family Catholic.

With revenge in sight, the Royals will play at 7 p.m. at Eden Prairie High School.
