German students take weekend field trip
Dec 5, 2014
Today, students in German took a field trip to a German site called Waldsee at the Concordia Language Villages outside of Bemidji, MN. Students left at noon today and will return on Sunday afternoon.
A total of 17 students from HHS made the trip, along with students from Winona Senior High School.
At Waldsee, students will get the chance to use their German in real situations, whether it’s sitting at the table for a meal or playing soccer in the snow. They will be surrounded by German speakers.
“These student have lots of opportunities to learn more German but use it in a consistent immersion environment that we can’t replicate in the classroom,” said Ms. Kelly Dirks, World Languages.
There is a different theme every year, and this year the main theme is Fairy Tales. The activities will be related back to that throughout the weekend.
“Some of the students have gone five or more times in the past,” Dirks said.
“I am most excited about the food the camp serves, it’s almost like a summer camp in the winter,” said Chrisna Minh, senior.
