Celebrating teachers, janitors, and all HHS staff

This past week, HHS celebrated National Education Week, acknowledging all that the staff does for the high school community.

Student Government organized National Education Week at HHS.

“Ms. Johnson wanted to make sure that everyone was recognized inside the school. In the past, we have had things that recognize the teachers, but this year we tried to move it over to everyone, like the bus drivers. She wanted to make students realize that there are a bunch of people [who help out in the school],” said Karina Rivas, senior and secretary of Student Government.

On Monday and Tuesday of last week, Student Government set up a table at lunch where students could sign thank you cards for the staff members they’re thankful for. These note cards were later passed out to the teachers.

“A lot of the staff was really grateful. I saw [teachers] pick up their thank you cards and they had big smiles on their faces,” said Simron Mishra, senior and vice president of Student Government.

The Student Government made sure to personally write thank you notes to anyone who did not receive one. They wanted to make sure that every staff member felt honored.

“[Student Government] did a bunch of little things to recognize and brighten the HHS staff’s week” said Josie Brott, senior and president of Student Government.

Student Government had a special event planned for each day of the week.

On Monday, the staff was served cake. On Wednesday morning, there was a parade in the mall, and on Friday, there was a coffee hour.

“It was free for the staff to come in and get coffee and treats,” Rivas said. “The administration also received goodie bags, and Ms. Johnson received flowers and a card.”

It was a week full of appreciating HHS staff members and all of their hard work.

“It is nice that the staff who don’t usually get recognized, like the library and janitorial staff, feel appreciated [too],” Mishra said.
