The HHS girls hockey team came into Tuesday night’s showdown with a two-game winning streak. After impressive wins over Apple Valley and Shakopee, the Royals looked to continue their hot stretch against previously undefeated Orono.

The Royals started the game strong, scoring two goals in the first four and a half minutes by Grace Bizal, senior captain, and Kylie Hanley, freshman.

In the second period, Orono’s defense played tough and held the Royals’ fast-paced offense in check.

The Spartans cut the Royals lead in half with a goal early in the third period. But the Royals didn’t let the momentum swing too far Orono’s way as the Royals responded with a goal of their own from Rachael St. Clair, senior, with under three minutes remaining in the game.

This goal put the game out of reach for the Spartans as the Royals went on to win 3-1.

Throughout the game, the Royals kept the puck in the Orono zone and put up 36 shots on goal compared to Orono’s 23 shots on goal.

Next up for the Royals is another home game against New Prague on Friday Nov. 21. New Prague will enter the game with a 2-1 record.
