On Nov. 7, Ari Brace, senior captain, placed first in the section final meet, breaking multiple records.

Brace’s final score broke both the Edina pool record and the HHS dive record with a total of 489 points. This is the second time this season that Brace has broken the Hopkins record.

“Going into the meet, I had no idea I was going to win. But after my last dive when I knew I won, I felt like all my hard work had paid off,” Brace said.

For diving sections, there are two rounds of diving, where after 8 dives the top 16 are chosen to compete in the second round. Brace finished the first round with a total of 260 points, in first position.

“Going into the top 16, I was just pumped up to have three dives left. I knew I had to do them really well, but they’re dives I’m pretty confident about,” Brace said.

The other varsity diver, Julia Fromstein, eighth grader, also broke her personal record with a score of 160.45 after eight dives, but she did not qualify for the state tournament.

Brace and the other top three divers will competing in the state meet on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
