Oct 29, 2014
On Sunday, Oct. 26 at Whitetail Ridge Campground in Park Rapids, Wis., the Hopkins Mountain Biking Club placed third at the state championship meet.
Over 20 students raced at the meet. Girls raced from 8.6 to 12.9 miles, and boys raced 4.3 to 17.2 miles depending on their category.
Collin Maynard, sophomore, won the Junior Varsity state title. Several other HHS riders placed in the top five in their categories as well, propelling the team to its third-place finish.
“I thought we took the accumulated skills and experiences we had gained throughout the year and applied it to the race and did well,” said Carter Eng, senior.
The club placed in the top three at each of its four meets before the state championship. They are looking forward to another great year of racing next year.
“Our best rider is a sophomore so we have two more years of experience and consistent winning,” said Eng.
