On Monday, Oct. 13, the HHS chapter of the non-profit She’s the First held a women in leadership panel to help raise awareness for their cause: helping girls around the world get an education.
Four influential women from Minnesota came speak: Laura Liu, Chief Operating Officer at College Possible, Tammy Stanoch, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Carlson Companies, Kris Lockhart, Associate Vice President for equity and diversity at the University of MN, and Yvonne Selcer, MN State Representative.
The president of the HHS chapter, Callan Showers, senior, moderated the panel. The questions covered topics from support given to women in the work environment to advice for young women preparing to go to college. This allowed the panel to reflect on their past.
“Growing up and going to an all girl’s college really allowed me to discover the Women’s Rights Movement,” Selcer said.
They also gave tips about how to be a successful woman in today’s competitive world.
“The one thing you have control over is how hard you work, embrace the bitch, its just the female way of being assertive,” said Liu.
