The Royals girls soccer team defeated Minneapolis Southwest High School on Thursday night to advance to the second round of the section playoffs.

The Royals came into the game as the favorites, ranked third in the section, with a record 9-5-2. Minneapolis Southwest came into Thursday’s matchup ranked as seventh in the section with a regular season record of 7-7-2.

The girls lived up to their favorite status by cruising to a 5-0 victory. Corbin Boyd, senior, led the team with two goals as the Royals showed their versatility with four girls finding the back of the net.

The girls move on to face second ranked Robbinsdale Armstrong in the section quarterfinal game. The game will be played at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School at 11 am on Saturday morning.
