Nine HHS students honored during National Signing Day event
Nov 11, 2021
Yesterday, November 10, marked the first National Signing Day of the 2021-2022 school year where HHS student-athletes celebrated the continuation of their athletic careers in college. This national celebration of high school seniors coming from a variety of backgrounds has traditionally been the first day that they are eligible to sign a binding National Letter of Intent (NIL) for a collegiate sport with a school that is a member of the United States National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
Announcing their commitment to pursue higher education, these nine student athletes were given the opportunity to speak and be honored by family, friends, coaches, and all those attributed to the success of the athlete. One by one, the athletes signed their NIL where they were given an award and formally ended the recruiting process as they agreed to attend the institution for one year in exchange for the institution’s promise of a place in their athletic department. These nine exceptional students are listed below:
Amaya Battle, basketball, University of Minnesota
Alayna Contreras, basketball, Cochise College
Ruth Freiberg, softball, University of Minnesota-Crookston
Lauren Granger, softball, West Texas A&M
Jack Mausser, baseball, North Iowa Area CC
Maddox Mihalakis, baseball, University of Arizona
Maya Nnaji, basketball, University of Arizona
Gabe Olson, baseball, Upper Iowa University
Brock Zimmer, baseball, Upper Iowa University
