HHS StudCo announces prom date change
Feb 6, 2020
Traditionally, prom is held on a Saturday in May. However, this year the HHS administration decided to change the date.
Around 9:00 am. On Feb. 5, HHS students opened their phones to see an announcement made by the student council Instagram page that prom would be moved from its original date to April 18, 2020.
This year, the original prom date fell during the holiday of Ramadan. In previous years, prom has been held before or after the holiday to avoid conflict for students celebrating this holiday.
¨The decision to move prom was to accomodate for the larger student body of those who weren’t able to attend,” said Elliot Berman, junior, and student council member.
Administration made the decision to reschedule the highly anticipated dance, and there have been mixed reviews.
“I’m glad the new prom date will accommodate more people, but with the date being in April it increases the possibility of snow and rain disrupting the day.” said Linda Nyakundi, junior.
Some are concerned with the possibility of weather problems, and others are excited about the opportunity for more students to attend.
“I am very grateful that the prom committee was able to change the date so more people are able to go and experience. It would have been really unfortunate if the people celebrating Ramadan wouldn’t be able to attend.” said Eden Lockhart, junior.
