The Royals huddled around recapping their performance after falling to the Lightning in the State Championship. The final score was 63-68.

The Hopkins Royals Girls basketball team is looking to dive into another state championship run in their 2019 campaign.

The Royals will face their bitter rival, the Wayzata Trojans, the team that is currently number 2 in the state behind Hopkins.

Not only is Hopkins ranked number 1 in the state of Minnesota, they are up to sixth nationally, according to USA Today.

Hopkins has been led by star junior Paige Bueckers, who is nominated for the Naismith Prep Player Award. She is averaging 25 points, six assists, and five steals per game.

The Royals are also being led by senior captain Dlayla Chakolis, who is committed to play division one basketball at the University of Hampton. Chakolis is leading the team in rebounding this season with 7.3 a game.

Hopkins has faced the Trojans twice this year. Both ending up in victories, while in packed houses.

In their first matchup, at the Lindbergh Center, the Royals came out on top, but not by much, 69-66, something the Royals not are used to. In their second matchup, Hopkins took that game very decisively, 70-49.

The Hopkins Girls basketball squad will be looking to make another state run, but first, they must go through the Trojans of Wayzata.
