First round of MSHSL wrestling state tournament concludes
Mar 1, 2019
HHS has four representatives in St. Paul at the Xcel Energy Center today for the MSHSL individual wrestling state tournament. RJ Chakolis, sophomore, Deonte Bryant, junior, Demetrius Patton, junior, and Clifton Patterson, senior.
This comes two weeks after the team placed second in team sections (champion qualifies for the state tournament). Last weekend was the individual section tournament, in which 12 out of the 13 wrestlers from HHS placed within the top six of their respective weight classes. Including two section champions (Chakolis, Patterson).
The first round of the individual state tournament has concluded for all of the Royals going 2-2. With a win from Chakolis at 195 pounds (decision over Donald Nde, senior, Woodbury). A win for Patton at 160 pounds (decision over Cayden Homme, sophomore, Wayzata).
With close matches from Patterson and Bryant, but an unfortunate loss their tournaments are not over as they will now fall into the wrestlebacks/consolation bracket in which they can still place.
