Top runner Eli Hoeft commits to the Gophers
Jan 28, 2019
On Jan. 3 Eli Hoeft, senior, committed to continue track & cross country at the University of Minnesota.
“I chose the University of Minnesota because I feel as if there is no ceiling for me there and I immediately felt like a part of the team when I visited. I have been raised being a Gopher fan so I am extremely excited and there will be a good dynamic of learning and leadership opportunities in further years” Hoeft said.
Although Hoeft has had some big accomplishments in past track seasons, he is looking to have an even bigger season this year.
“My biggest track accomplishment was finishing third in the True Team State Track Meet last year, but ideally I will make some best accomplishments this spring,” Hoeft said.
In these upcoming months, he will have his eyes set on his future and stay focused on track to help his team succeed.
As a junior, Hoeft ran a 2:04.76 800 meter, 4:22.23 1,600 meter and a 9:35.87 3,200 meter.
The mountains of Buffalo, Wyoming, a race he has ran with the team will always be one of his favorites because of the change in scenery. And he of course loves spending time with his teammates.
He has high expectations for his team this year and himself.
“I think we can win True Team State this year and we shouldn’t shoot for anything less. Individually, I want to be in a position to win any race I run,” Hoeft said.
