Preview: Alpine skiing
Dec 25, 2018
As winter rolls in, the HHS Alpine Ski Team strap up their boots and grab their skis to hit the slopes.
The Royals have a good mix of experienced skiers and coaches looking to have a very successful season.
During their offseason, the team headed to Montana to practice, as well as dryland training in the Lindbergh center. “I couldn’t make the trip this year, but the team worked very hard this offseason and I can’t wait to get started,” said Nicholas Kanitz, senior.
Surprisingly, the lack of snow so far this winter hasn’t stopped the Royals and they are practicing daily at Hyland Hills Ski & Snowboard Area. “Hyland and other places have been making snow, which helps a lot, but it has been really warm lately so the hills are pretty sloppy.” said Kanitz.
On Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Buck Hill the Hopkins took 3rd out 6 teams. They lost to their rivals Edina and Minnetonka.
“Our biggest goal this season is to finish the highest in the lake conference and get a good seeding in sections,” said Kanitz.
The Royals have their next meet on Friday, Dec. 21, at Wild Mountain. They hope to place high among the 16 other teams to get their season off to a great start.
