The Royals football team runs out of the locker room during a game this season. The Royals take on Spring Lake Park this season.

Last Friday, September 14th, the Royals football team hosted Armstrong to face the Falcons in their third game of the season. The Royals fell to the Falcons 41-37.

Coming into the game at 1-1, the Royals have been struggling to stop the run game, and it didn’t get much better against the Falcons.

“We shot ourselves in the foot last week. We were very undisciplined and it cost us the game,” said Will Von Der Hoff, senior. “Our defense really is stacked with talent and no way we let that happen again.”

Stopping Spring Lake Park means stopping the run game, as they have 3 rushers totaling over 200 yards this season. They are averaging 336.7 rush yards a game, while only averaging 4.3 passing yards per game.

One bright spot last week was senior running back Jadon Washington, as he totaled 3 touchdowns while also adding 243 rushing yards.

“I feel as if I’ve played above my expectations so far this season,” said Washington. “I know my team and I know we’ll bounce back, we just need to play to our abilities and the results will speak for themselves.”

This is a big game for the Royals. Winning means they are right back in the section race at 2-2. But, losing this game would mean a tough 1-3 start to the season for a Royals team who had some expectations coming into the season.

The Royals will look to bounce back this Friday night at Spring Lake Park, at 7.p.m.
