State fair food favorites

The Great Minnesota Get Together happens for 12 days at the end of the summer, an annual tradition for many residents. Out of all the big attractions, such as rides and concerts, the food is what draws the crowds in most.
“I gain ten pounds every year from the fair alone,” said Alyssa Marx, junior.
At Hopkins, there are many students who work at the fair, at food stands, such as Turkey to Go, Sweet Martha’s Cookies, and Fresh French Fries.
“Working at Turkey to Go was a great experience allowing me to talk to a lot of people, from everywhere around Minnesota. The co-workers were great,” said Samit Patel, senior.
The biggest and most popular food establishments often overshadow those that are hidden treasures for some. Fried cookie dough and candy bars, grilled peaches, and nitro ice cream are just a few of the many less recognized fair fan foods.
“Nitro ice cream is one of my favorite things at the fair, as I can’t find it anywhere else. I love going to the fair because it’s the last hoorah of summer,” said Noah Zaroff, senior.
