Student Profile: Rosella Birgy
May 9, 2018
When Rosella Birgy, junior, was offered to be an intern at Stages Theatre Company as a soundboard technician, she jumped at the opportunity.
Stages Theatre Company or simply “Stages,” located on Mainstreet, is a popular place for children and adults alike to watch award-winning productions starring youth. Birgy and her siblings have been involved with Stages for many productions in both cast and crew positions.
“They called me three days before the show started because their other intern had become unavailable. I have interned before and they knew I loved working with them,” Birgy said.
Despite having to miss a decent amount of school for this internship, Birgy has stayed on top of her schoolwork and preparing for her upcoming two AP tests.
The production Birgy and many other Minnesotan youth have worked hard to perfect is called “Crenshaw.”
“Crenshaw is based on a book and is about a boy whose family is struggling with homelessness. The imaginary friend he invented in his childhood is a cat named Crenshaw and that is helping him navigate this turbulent time,” Birgy said.
Tickets for “Crenshaw” are still available and will be presented at Stages until May 19.
