Asher Kahn, junior, is preparing for his second year on varsity for the Hopkins ultimate frisbee team, Hurt (Hopkins Ultimate Recreation Team). Kahn has been playing for the Hopkins teams since seventh grade.

HURT’s official season will start April third but the team has already been preparing since December.

“We have practices three nights a week and have already had three indoor tournaments,” Kahn said.

HURT last year was ranked twelfth nationally. Ranks still haven’t come out for this upcoming spring but Kahn along with HURT will be looking to be ranked higher this season.

“I have been attending team workouts twice a week along with conditioning and working on fundamentals in practices twice a week,” Kahn said.

Kahn plays the position of cutter for the team. The cutter runs the offense and goes after long throws down the field to score. In order to score the player must posses the disc in the endzone.

HURT has been ranked top two in the state for many years competing alongside of Edina. Throughout the years the Royals and Edina have formed a big rivalry for the state title each year.

“In order to beat Edina this year we need to do a few things, use our team strengths like defense to our advantage, play a fast paced game, and continue to be mentally strong,” Kahn said.

HURT will continue to prepare for their upcoming tournaments, the regular season, and state with support of Asher Kahn.
