Eli Hoeft, junior, is a captain for this upcoming 2018 track and field season. Hoeft has been a track and field runner since seventh grade.

“I originally played soccer and didn’t think I would run track but my brother (Owen Hoeft, HHS alumni) convinced me to do it in seventh grade and I have loved it ever since,” said Hoeft.

Hoeft also explained that by doing track it has taught him a lot about hard work and discipline.

Hoeft isn’t the only other runner in his family either. His brother, Owen Hoeft, is currently a long distance runner for the University of Minnesota track team. His father, Carson Hoeft, is an alumni of the University of Minnesota where he also ran long distance track and field.

Hoeft is also known as a long distance runner. His main events are the 1600 meter race, the 3200 meter race, and the 800 meter race.

“I do long distance because I’m best at it and I’m not good at sprinting or jumping. I have also not taken any other events besides long distance very seriously,” said Hoeft.

Hoeft has been on varsity for a couple years and has also created many memories with many people.

“My favorite memory was last year when our team traveled to Howard Wood South Dakota because it was a huge meet with many High Schools. It was also really fun to travel with my team,” said Hoeft.

Hoeft also has a few goals for this upcoming 2018 season.

“My main goals this year are to not only be a leader for our team but to also make true team state. I also would like to run a 4:20 mile, a 9:20 two mile, and a 2:02 half mile.”
