Darkest Hour

Based on the true story of how Winston Churchill became the Prime Minister of England during World War II, The Darkest Hour tells the personal story and struggles of Churchill during this time. The movie starts off showing The Parliament in England in need of a new leader. Churchill is appointed as Prime Minister and from then on in the movie the audience gets a look inside the extremities of Churchill’s role in the war.

While the story came from true events, some aspects of the movie were created just for dramatic affect and did not happen in history. For example, there is a scene in the movie where Churchill sneaks away and rides the underground in order to get the opinions of the public for himself. This scene was very powerful and a very memorable scene in the movie. Even though the movie did not have all the fact right, it was still a great movie that deserved all of the nominations it received. The Darkest Hour has been nominated for many awards at this year’s Oscars. Its nominations include Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, and Best Makeup.

Overall The Darkest Hour is a movie worth seeing as long as when seeing it you don’t blindly believe everything it says.
