Holiday exchanges become popular at HHS

Dec 20, 2017

As the holidays approach many friend groups and classrooms gather to organize a secret santa or holiday friend exchange. Ms. April Felt, math, has organized a secret holiday friend exchange. Classmates chose their person in early December and will be exchanging Dec. 22.

“I enjoyed participating in the exchange because it gives you something to look forward to for the last week before break,” said Emma Galinson, junior.

As a way to celebrate the holidays and include everyone, friends exchange gifts, homemade or bought. Each person chooses a name at random then has to get them a present.

Classrooms, like Felt’s, join in on the fun creating class wide secret holiday friends. Organizing this creates a unity in classrooms and brings people together who might have not spoken other wise.

Teachers put everyone’s name into a bucket and then go around and everyone draws a name. The class usually puts a cap price on gifts and exchanges all on the same day. Although, people have to pay a small price for the presents they in turn receive a present of the same value.

Many classrooms and friend groups participate in this exchange for fun but also to incorporate everyone and celebrate the holidays.
