Deveraux Davis, senior, pulls up from the three point line. The Royals beat the Sauk-Rapids Rice Storm 93-53.

Last night, the boys’ basketball team extended their win streak to three games when they beat the Champlin Park Rebels 78-60.

The Royals, after being down early, were able to go on a 16-0 run and didn’t step off the pedal after that. With this loss, the Rebels move to 0-2 on the season and will face the Coon Rapids Cardinals next.

Josiah Strong, senior, has been leading the Rebels in scoring all season and did again last night when he scored 21 points. He is now averaging 25 points per game, no one else on their team is averaging more than ten points per game.

For the Royals, Zeke Nnaji, junior, continues to dominate and lead the Royals in games. This past game he scored 16 points behind only Blaise Beauchamp, sophomore, who scored 18.

“I’ve been really trying to get stronger and continue to work on my weaknesses,” Nnaji said. “I think that playing unselfishly and attacking the glass both offensively and defensively have also helped to perform better.”

Kerwin Walton, sophomore, continues to produce even in the new system. Last night he scored 14 points and is now second on the team in points per game averaging 13.8.

Joe Hedstrom, senior and Badger commit, has still only one game where he has scored more than ten points. Last night he was only able to score eight and is averaging 7.2 points per game.

After losing their first game, the Royals have been playing very strongly as a team and will look to continue throughout the rest of the season.

“I think that we are working harder and have also built up a good amount of chemistry. If we just rebound and defend, the rest should fall into place,” Nnaji said.

The Royals will be put to the test in their next game against the Edina Hornets on Fri., Dec. 15.

The Hornets have started out the season very strong and are riding a three-game win streak. They are being led by Anders Nelson, senior, and Jack Middleton, sophomore, and they are averaging 24 and 13.3 points per game, respectively.

The Hornets have picked up two straight wins against strong opponents, beating the DeLaSalle Islanders 84-79 and the Apple Valley Eagles 71-66.
