HHS Repsonds pairs up with other clubs

Dec 8, 2017

The devastating Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico hard and HHS Responds wanted to do something about it.

HHS Responds has paired up with some other clubs, like earth club and project focus, to raise money for Puerto Rico.

They are raising money and awareness for the hurricane victims that were caught in the storm that occurred a few months ago.

“People in Puerto Rico are kind of just pushed to the side in a time like this and they still have a lot of things that they need,” said Ben Herstig, senior.

The clubs are collecting different things in the form of donations. For example, they are collecting toys for kids for the holidays, first aid kits, loose change, pillows, clothing and many other things.

“We are going to do our part by sending out a list of things that were looking for and at conferences we will have a stand with a few boxes for people to donate things,” Herstig said.

The devastating 150 mph wind storm hit Puerto Rico on Sept. 20. Almost two weeks after the storm hit, most of Puerto Rico’s residents still lacked power and clean water.

Hurricane Irma had hit the area nearby right before Hurricane Maria hit. It resulted in 1 million people without power. When Maria hit, 600,000 people still had no power.

“The reason we are doing this is to relieve things and make things a little bit better for the people struggling there,” Herstig said.
