HHS and Tanglen experience power issues Tuesday during school

Dec 5, 2017

On Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 8:22 a.m., the power in HHS went out in classrooms throughout the West Wing, along with in the Mall and the lunchroom.

Although the South Wing was unaffected, the power outage also spread to nearby Tanglen Elementary, where students were released early. The source of the outage remains unclear.

This is not the first time the power has gone out in HHS. Just last year, a power outage during first semester caused classes to be cancelled for the rest of the day.

Despite the arrival of buses in preparation to take students at the high school home, the power came back on sooner than anticipated. According to Xcel Energy, the estimated restoration time was for 11:15 a.m. The power came back on at around 9:15 a.m., which was followed by the passing-time bell in between first and second block.

Xcel Energy issued the following statement:

“Crews are working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. Please continue to check back for estimated restoration time updates. Thank you for your patience.”

It appears the issue was localized to HHS and Tanglen, with no other customers in the area being impacted. Hopkins North Junior High was undisturbed, despite close proximity.
