Exploration of the Medical and Health Fields delves into the industry

Exploration of the Medical and Health Fields is a one term course in which students are able to explore what type of careers they may want to pursue in the medical and health fields.

“I chose this class because I’m interested in going into the medicine and becoming a doctor, so this is a cool opportunity that allows me to experience and learn about different careers and paths in this field,” said Abigail Yousha, senior.

The class consists of many guest speakers who have first-hand experience in careers involving medicine and health. Students will also be able to have their own hands-on experiences when they visit medical and health facilities.

“I’m excited for our field trips when we learn about surgery and about how to do surgical structures,” said Yousha.

The class is split into three sections. It consists of class time learning about background information and introductory materials 25 percent of the time, information from professionals, research, and experiences 65 percent of the time, and demonstration of learning ten percent of the time.

The class will take a field trip to the University of Minnesota during their unit about surgery. The lesson, taught by real medical students, will give students the opportunity to learn more about surgeries directly.
