New turf field excites student-athletes

As the new turf field takes shape, student athletes of HHS see a bright future in the soccer, baseball, and softball programs. If you look out of the west wing’s windows, you will see green turf laid out on various parts of the gray rubber granules.
“I’m pretty stoked,” said Tyler Elliott, sophomore. “Turf is a very different game than a normal grass field, it’s faster and the ball takes bigger bounces.” Elliott is on the JV soccer team so a lot of his games were played on Tanglen Elementary’s grass.
“I prefer to play on turf over the Tanglen field,” Elliott said. “It was hard to dribble and pass the ball in the grass because the field was so thick.”
However, soccer is not the only sport that is getting a new field, the baseball program is also expecting a huge upgrade.
“It’s good to see that the athletic department has put some time and money into the baseball program,” said Joey Hurth, sophomore baseball player. “We really needed a new place to play and this is perfect.”
When HHS unveils the new turf fields in the spring it is sure to be the new gem of the Lake Conference and the state of Minnesota.
