HHS brings in guest speaker for seniors

Oct 6, 2017

As seniors approach their final and most decisive year of high school, Craig Hillier, guest speaker, attempted to unite the class while reinforcing ideas of respect and resilience.

“I thought he was very engaging and used stories that were easy to find a connection to,” said Dena Rosen, senior.

Hillier engaged the senior class in a presentation on Monday, Oct. 2 during second block. He spoke about life strategies and how seniors should finish out their last year at HHS strong.

One activity Hillier used during his presentation was Simon Says, in which he demonstrated how students deal with making mistakes, along with encouraging the class to make the most of their senior year.

Hillier has been speaking to students since 1990, with the goal of motivating students to make positive life choices. Hillier works with students ranging from middle school to high school.

“I liked what he said about the seniors being the role models for the school, because I think that is true,” said Callie Smith, senior.

During Hillier’s presentation, he had to stop in the middle multiple times to tell students sitting in the back of the auditorium to be quiet. Hillier said that Hopkins was the first school in 27 years in which he had to repeatedly stop his presentation in order to quiet students.
