This past Saturday, Sep. 9, the Royals boys soccer team lost a hard fought battle to the Washburn Millers by a score of 3-2.

Clarence Weah, sophomore center forward, netted the only two goals for the Royals on the game. His confidence is at an all time high.

“I’ve been sticking to my game all season long and it’s worked out for me,” Weah said. “I feel like my teammates keep giving me good feeds and I’m just doing my job putting them in the back of the net.”

Ben Paschke, sophomore defender, believes the team has been steadily improving all season long.

“Our ability to improve game after game has been a great strength of our team this year,” Paschke said. “That’s the mindset we need to have all season.”

Paschke thought that one of the reasons the Royals didn’t come out victorious was that the team needed to play with more unity.

“The team needed to play more as a unit in order to win that game,” Paschke said. “We were playing into their strengths a lot of that game. The defense was playing a lot of catch up and we weren’t playing our game.”

Paschke along with his other teammates were happy to see Nico Shirley, senior captain, back on the field after recovering from a separated shoulder.

“It was good to have our leader back on the field with us,” Paschke said. “His presence was definitely felt.”

Shirley definitely agreed.

“It felt amazing. I’m not playing 100 percent and I’m not back to where I was but I am happy to be on the field again,” Shirley said. “It was tough watching for two and a half weeks and I’m just glad I can play again.”

The Royals are back on the road, today, September 12th at 7 p.m., in a conference matchup against the Edina Hornets.
