Movie Monday: IT
Sep 11, 2017
Over the weekend I watched the newly remade movie IT based off the Stephen King’s novel by the same name. This movie is about a group of several outcasts in their journey to overcome fear and save their town from the evil clown named Pennywise.
Every 27 years an ancient creature by the name of Pennywise emerges from the sewers of Derry, Maine and feasts on the children of the town. The group of kids, known as the Loser Club, must overcome their deepest fears and defeat Pennywise.
In a horror movie the last thing anyone would expect is humor. Despite this, the director, Andrés Muschietti, uses humor as a way to magnify the scary parts of the movie. Throughout the movie you were constantly rooting for the protagonists which led to a very satisfying end.
With an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes the movie has been certified as “fresh”. It has also broken several records including the highest preview night gross for any R-rated film even beating Deadpool.
Overall I recommend seeing this movie. The acting was great and the directing was even better. Movies generally don’t scare me and this one had me on the edge of my seat. It did a good job of showing what a situation similar to that would feel like and showed the true terror those kids had to endure.
