Softball: preview of sections game vs Falcons
May 25, 2017
Today, Thurs. May 25., the Royals softball team will continue their postseason and face the Armstrong Falcons in a Section 6AAAA quarterfinal game.
In the first round of the section tournament, the Royals, who are the first seed in the tournament beat the Wayzata Trojans, the eight seed in a close game, the final score being 5-4.
The Falcons who are seeded fourth also had a tight first game, defeating the Washburn Millers, who are seated fifth, 3-1.
The game will be the Section 6AAAA championship rematch, as last year the Royals defeated the Falcons to become section champions, and advance to state, while the Falcons finished their season second place.
The Royals will be looking to senior leaders Kirsten Magaard, and MaKenzie Merritt, who will both be expected to pitch in the game, as well as senior third baseman and leadoff batter Hannah Kleist, to push the team through the game with high energy and enthusiasm.
Magaard and Merit will both work to continue their successful streak at the plate. As Magaard went 3-3, and Merritt 2-3 in the game against the Trojans. Kliest has also had a very solid at third base and is currently batting above .300.
“We are super excited and have worked hard in the past week to prepare for sections,” said Evie Barczak, junior center fielder. “Our ultimate goal is to have good energy throughout the game.”
The game will take place at 4 p.m. at the Royals’ home field.
