The 2017-18 NBA season is ending very soon. Each year there are a couple rookie players that stand out from the rest. This year, the debate on who should win rookie of the year has been a big controversy.

Season recap: boys basketball

The Royals boys’ basketball team dominated the state of Minnesota in the regular season after missing the State Tournament last year. Last year, the Royals had a 21-5 record and were ranked second in the sections tournament, but the season was ended by the Wayzata Trojans in the finals. The Royals fell 51-66 and failed to earn a spot at Target Center for the first time since 2012-2013.
Zeke Nnaji, junior, goes up for a contested lay-up against Wayzata in the Sections finals. Hopkins lost this game. The Royals lost 66-51 and ended their season.

Nnaji represents boys basketball with second team All-Metro

Zeke Nnaji, junior, had a dominant season for the Royals boys’ basketball team this year. Nnaji was honored at the end of the season by being put on to the second team All-Metro. Nnaji was very deserving of this award after he dominated teams with his height and ability to shoot. Teams didn’t just have to worry about his big presence in the paint, but also had to cover his mid-range shot.

Boys basketball looks to ride win streak into post season

It has been 92 days since the Hopkins boys’ basketball team lost a game. Riding a 21-game win streak, the Royals travelled to Minneapolis North to face the Polars on Feb. 13. The Royals hard work and consistent play to keep the streak alive game in and game out almost came to an end. The Royals were down 11 points in the second half and it looked like they would finally lose.

Recap: Southwest Basketball 2018

The Southwest recreational basketball playoffs took place last weekend, and HHS representatives took center stage. Southwest recreational basketball is operated by Minnetonka’s community education department and contains teams from cities around the West Metro including Hopkins, Wayzata, Edina, and Minnetonka. Teams are eligible from grades 9-12 and the teams are formed by the players themselves.
The Royals huddled around recapping their performance after falling to the Lightning in the State Championship. The final score was 63-68.

After a statement win against Forest Lake last night, the Royals took on the Roseville Raiders (23-7) in a well fought game from both teams.
