Bobby Wilson, senior, is a two-sport varsity athlete at HHS. He plays goalie for the Royals hockey team and plays third base and is also the captain for the baseball team. Earlier this school year he finished his fourth and final season for the Royals hockey team and is now getting ready to start his final season for baseball.

The Sophomores warm up by throwing the ball back and forth for the second day of tryouts. Teams will be announced tonight.

Baseball hosts tryouts and prepares for season

The boys baseball team will begin to suit up for tryouts during this week. The coaches of all three teams which consists of the sophomore, junior varsity and varsity teams will evaluate the players all week. Players are mainly evaluated on hitting, exit velocity, speed, fielding, and for some, pitching.

The Minnesota Wild are riding a four-game win streak behind a hot Jason Zucker, forward, and a brick wall in Devan Dubnyk, goalie.

With signing day coming up, another Royal has just announced their commitment. Tommy Auth, senior baseball captain, is headed to Ellsworth Community College to begin the JUCO grind.

On Wednesday, September 27th, the Minnesota Twins did something they have not done in seven years, they clinched a spot into the playoffs as the second wild card spot.

Baseball prepares for their road to state

The HHS baseball team finished the season with a record of 10-9 and earned the second seed in the sections tournament. The Royals had a pretty consistent season with their record this year. They were never more than two games above or below .500. Their longest win streak on the season was four games while their longest losing streak was three games.

The Royals are finishing up their regular season and are getting ready for the sections tournament. After the Royals found some late-season success, they could not finish the season off strong. After coming off a 4-game win streak, the Royals followed that with a 3- game losing streak.

The Royals came into last night’s home matchup against the Minneapolis Washburn Millers with a three game winning streak, looking to extend it to four. Jack Kohen, senior, was the starting pitcher and pitched three innings, striking out eight batters. Kohen was also given the win for his performance.

The HHS baseball team continues to be consistent in their season but are looking for a spark to get them going. With the first week done and the Royals going 2-2 the second week came and the Royals did the same thing.
