Mason’s biggest artists of 2018

Mason Arneson, Variety Editor
There was a lot of music that was released in 2018, a decent amount of it was very good. But the artists I’m talking about today are the people that made the biggest strides in popularity or artistic growth throughout this past calendar year. So without further ado, here are the five biggest winners in music during 2018.

Tory Lanez released his third studio album titled “LoVE me NOw” this Oct. 27. Lanez is really trying to make his mark on 2018 after releasing this just seven months after his previous project “MEMORIES DON’T DIE.”

Eve Clarkson, Copy Editor
One thing that young ‘hippie’ moms and old grumpy white men have in common: the practice of pill shaming.

Thinking for yourself

Sam Buttress, Opinion Editor
While the majority of students here are below voting age, that hasn’t stopped us from taking political issues seriously. Protests, political discourse and ideological clubs have become more and more commonplace in recent times. Despite this, I feel that the majority of students are not thinking for themselves on political issues.

Book review: Kobe Bryant; The Mamba Mentality; How I Play

Gianni Tejada, Staff Reporter
Ever since I really started liking the NBA, Kobe Bryant was always one of my favorite players, after hearing just a small percentage of the stories in this book I admired his work ethic. When I think about Kobe, the first thing that comes to mind is dedication, and that’s what a lot of his new book, The Mamba Mentality: How I Play, is about.

Mason Arneson, Variety Editor
The boys are back. After a breakout 2017, L.A. based boy band Brockhampton followed up their beloved Saturation series with their fourth studio album iridescence.

On a chilly Wednesday night, J Cole and company managed to heat up the Target Center with a stirring set. Less than a month following the release of his fifth studio album, KOD, one of hip hop’s most popular acts, J Cole, announced that he would be embarking on his second arena tour in as many years.
Favorite songs of the summer

Favorite songs of the summer

Gianni Tejada, Staff Reporter
This summer, many artists came out with projects, from Drake to Travis Scott to five 7-track EPs entirely produced by Kanye West, and many more. There have been lots of great songs that released this summer and The HHS Journalism Production class has compiled their favorites. Underneath each song choice is a reason it was a favorite.
Review: Jack Ryan

Review: Jack Ryan

Sam Buttress, Staff Reporter
Have you ever watched an episode of “The Office” and thought, “Yeah this is good, but it’d be much better if Jim was a CIA officer and instead of pranking Dwight he hunted down a terrorist mastermind,”? Amazon’s new series “Jack Ryan” may not scratch that itch exactly, but it’s by far the closest we’re going to get.

It’s never the boyfriend

Olivia Cohen, News Editor
In the era we find ourselves living in, word travels fast. So fast when an event occurs in the news, within hours, even minutes of its occurance, a slew of news articles are already on the scene reporting it. So when the media broke and let the news spill of Mac Miller's death, a river of reports, stories, theories and comments were already being made.
